BREATHE EASY FOUNDATION-UPDATES FROM JANUARY2017 ACTIVITIES
Two trustees travelled to Nigeria with Ventolin Inhalers which were donated plus other useful medications such as Prednisolone, Becotide Inhalers and Peak Flows.
On the 25th of January we joined the University Teaching Hospital Asthma Club. There were over 80 members in this Club but approximately 40 members were at the meeting on that day. We were welcomed by Professor Ige who is the Consultant for Asthma and Chest diseases, and the Matron and Club members also gave us a warm welcome. It was very moving as we were only doing the Charity work for God’s Glory. Our brother Mr Isaac Adewusi who was also on holidays from UK also joined us and he donated 50,000 Naira to the Club which they really appreciated.
There were speeches from the members of the Club and some Staff. The Matron demonstrated how to use different inhalers and laid emphasis on the importance of having their ventolin inhalers with them every time. She explained the difference between the preventers and the relievers. The use of nebulisers was discussed as a club member asked question about having his own. He has been admitted to the Emergency Department several times due to bad attacks. The Consultant explained to him that it is better to come to the Emergency Department where he could be treated and monitored.
On the 7th of February, we visited the Chest Clinic at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital to meet Professor Erhabor and staff to donate inhalers and peakflow. 100 ventolin Inhalers and 25 Peakflows were donated for those patients who cannot afford to buy them. We took an old man whom we have been supporting to the Consultant as his asthma has not been controlled at all. He was benefitted from the prednisolone.
We had discussion with both Units about World Asthma Day. Both Hospitals have already started planning programmes for the day as it is an opportunity to raise awareness about getting prevention and getting appropriate treatment. We hope one of our Trustees will be able to join them in their campaign.
The Foundation was commended for its work with Asthma Chest Care Foundation (ACCF) and Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospita (OAUTH). A plaque (see photo on website) was presented by Dr Awopeju.
All photos about the activities can be seen on our website.
